The President of the People’s Republic of China landed in the UK this week with hundreds of armed forces personnel taking part in a ceremonial event for him.
More than 1,100 soldiers and 230 horses joinged Her Majesty The Queen, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, the Prime Minister, senior members of the Cabinet, the Lord Mayor of London, the Mayor of London, and senior military personnel.
Preparation for the event took place weeks before the arrival of President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan to the UK.
The ceremonial event took place at Horse Guards Parade consisting of Foot Guards from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards and the Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment Life Guards and Blues and Royals.
At the same time as the march ceremonial gun salutes echoed across London as the President arrived on the first step of the Royal Pavillion at Horse Guards.
The mall was lined by soldiers from Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards, Number 7 Company Coldstream Guards, F Company Scots Guards and 1st Battalion Welsh Guards.
