French Special Forces Brigade on Exercise in Djibouti

From November 20 to December 9, 2012, units of the Special Forces Brigade Land (BFST) participated in the exercise Tarantula Djibouti. The goal of an individual and collective training to fight in a desert environment.

The Brigade des Forces Speciales Terre (BFST) is split up into three units

  • 1er RPIMa is highly skilled and experienced, specializing in areas such as counter-terrorism and patrol operations (amphibious, jungle, mountain or motorized)
  • 3e RDP, the French Army’s Long Range Recon Patrol, is comprised of seven squadrons.
  • 4e providing air transportation and support anywhere in the world to France’s Special Forces.
